HOLDEN, Mass. - Soccer camp resumed today on the field at Wachusett Regional High School, where yesterday twelve-year old Joshua Thibodeau of Holden had collapsed suddenly during a low-speed drill, and was unable to be revived.

Thibodeau was attending the Zalgiris Soccer Camp at the high school with about 15 other campers when the incident occurred at 10 a.m. shortly after the camp began, and according to Joseph D. Early, district attorney, had just had water 15 minutes earlier and had not made any complaints during the physical activity.

Holden Police and Holden Emergency Medical services attempted to revive him at the scene, but as he was unresponsive, he was quickly transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center along with his parents. He was pronounced dead at 10:45 a.m. at the hospital.

Holden Police had been called to the scene with the report of a male party having a seizure, but as of yet, the cause of the boy's death is not known.

According to Early, they have no evidence that there was any pre-existing condition, but explained that an autopsy is being performed by the Chief Medical Examiner, with results potentially being released later today.

Thibodeau had been cleared to play, as he along with the rest of the children, had to have a medical waiver to participate in the camp.

"They weren't involved in any running or hard drills," said Early, "they had just been involved in a low-impact drill that had been going on for about ten to fifteen minutes."

While the camp was dismissed early yesterday, after meeting with parents, the district decided to continue the camp, and children returned to the field this morning.

Superintendent Thomas Pandiscio was there to greet the parents, and all instructors and counselors have been instructed to monitor the children to make sure they were both mentally and physically able to continue.

Pandiscio expressed confidence in the team of instructors, and said that one of the coaches in the camp was an EMT.
