HOLDEN, Mass. — In May, thousands of people will join together to walk 39 miles through the streets of Boston for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, and this Thursday neighbors can help support Holden resident Kim Frysinger's walk simply by eating at the local Papa Gino's Pizza.

"For every person who brings in a flyer, we'll get 20 percent of their orders for eat-in and carry-out" said Frysinger, who is now preparing for her second year participating in the walk.

"I've had relatives that have gone through mastectomies and I'm just so proud that every bit of the money that is raised stays in this immediate area, and goes to research and helping people with screening, testing and education — anything to get ahead of this disease."

Frysinger is one of six members of the team Patty's Bosom Buddies, and their goal this year is to raise $9,000 for the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade.

The team was formed in support of Pat Jones, who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in the Fall of 2009, and since then has undergone treatment and surgery and is now a Breast Cancer Survivor.

Yet this year, the team will be dedicating their walk to one of their original members, Shannon Finn, who had walked with them in 2010 before passing away last September after a long battle with the cancer.

On their team page, the group wrote of Finn: "We know she will be with us every step of the way, pushing us and sometimes pulling us along the way as she did in 2010. Her presence will be missed, but her spirit will be with us."

Last year, Frysinger got her first glimpse of what the walk was all about, and found it to be a wonderful experience.

"It was so wild," she said. "The people you meet, the people that are involved, that volunteer  — it was just amazing."

For instance, Frysinger told how throughout the whole walk, there were guys on Harley's with pink Mohawks and their motorcycles decorated, acting as crossing-guards.

"At at the very end, it started pouring, so we started to leave early, and the Harley guys pulled up and they said: 'oh, did we miss the final ceremonies?' and I said, no, it's pouring rain, we're just going to go home. We're wimping out.' and he goes 'no, you're not wimps, you just walked this whole way! — They were awesome," she said.

Now she hopes to join the cause again and be a part of the national movement to help those fighting breast cancer.

In order to help support Frysinger and her team's efforts, residents can visit Papa Gino's in Holden from the hours of 4  p.m. to 9 p.m, on Thursday, Feb. 16. The restaurant will donate 20 percent of the sales toward Frysinger's walk.

To contribute, residents should print out the flyer in the photo gallery, and present it when ordering. Flyers can also be picked up at the Gale Free Library.

Residents can also help Frysinger meet her goal of $1,800, by donating on her Avon Walk For Breast Cancer Personal Page.

Her team, Patty's Bosom Buddies, will also be holding a fundraiser dedicated to Shannon Finn at the Ludlow Country Club, at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 3

"There will be cocktails, dinner, music and dancing, and a sports memorabilia raffle" said Frysinger. "There will also be quite a few breast cancer survivors."

Tickets cost $30 in advance, and $35 at the door. To contact Frysinger about the event, call (508) 829-6796.
