HOLDEN, Mass. — The Friend's of the Council on Aging will hold their annual Valentine Cookie Sale at the Senior Center today, and residents are invited to come and enjoy the wide assortment of home baked sweets while supporting senior programs in Holden.
"We call all the friends and ask them to bake homemade cookies," said Valeda Schmucki. "We get very good support."
Whether its snickerdoodles or classic chocolate chip, residents can pick up an assortment of delicious homemade cookies for $5 a pound.
Furthermore, the confections have gone beyond just cookies, and bakers have created sweets like home-made chocolate lollipops to sell at the event as well.
The Friends of the Holden Council on Aging help raise funds to support the various needs and programs at the Senior Center. The board meets monthly and determines what to do with the raised funds.
"In the past, we've bought equipment for the senior center, card tables, and rain jackets for the meals on wheels drivers," said Schmucki. "We've also funded programs at the Senior Center."
Funds also support the production and postage of the "Among Friends" newsletter, that goes to everybody above 65 in Holden.
"These are seniors helping themselves," said Schmucki. "We work very hard to support the Senior Center."
The cookie sale will be held from 9 a.m. until every cookie is gone, on Friday, Feb. 10 at the Holden Senior Center at 1130 Main St. Holden.
